This weekend is such a special weekend!!
I know its not Christmas (that is still 37 weeks away..haha!!) and its not Easter (quite yet).
No, I have always had a deep appreciation (and thankfulness) for Palm Sunday.
Ever since I was a teenager I have always been intrigued with the last week of Jesus on earth, also known as the Passion Week or Christ’s walk towards the cross. There is so much significance and meaning starting with Jesus’ triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem. It must have been such an incredible event to see and experience the crowds welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem.
As the biblical story goes it must have also been a very trying and emotional time, not just for Jesus, but also the disciples, Jesus’ followers. First, came the Last Supper (which is why we will be celebrating communion this Sunday) and then the agony that Jesus went through in the garden before his subsequent arrest and his brutal walk towards the cross.
My fascination and deep appreciation with Palm Sunday and the Passion week is that Jesus made his decision to go to the cross during this week. Some may think it was an easy decision. In fact, read through the account of the Garden of Gethsemane as Jesus went through the painstaking decision to move towards the cross…for you and for me.
A number of years ago I actually stood in the Garden of Gethsemane–it was a very moving experience. My hope and prayer is that as we celebrate this weekend, we will also be “moved” to understand the great cost, sacrifice and commitment that Jesus made on our behalf.
It’s not Christmas this weekend, and its not quite Easter. It’s Palm Sunday and God wants you to experience and encounter a fresh revelation and understanding of how much he loves you…”For God so loved the world that He sent His Son…”…a walk to the cross … so that we are free!! Thank you Jesus!!
See you this Sunday,
Pastor Glenn and Cheryl
