Sermon Series

October 3rd ~ Heaven and Hell, What is Heaven Like? Part 1 by Glenn Embree

Why not follow along during the sermon with the notes below!

John 14:1-3

“Do not let your hearts be troubled; trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.”

Revelation 21:2-4

“I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying ‘Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away .”

1. Where is Heaven?

a. Heaven is a __________________________________.

John 14:2 “In my Fathers house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have

        ii.______________________________ Gen. 1:14-17

        iii. _____________________________ 2 Corinthians 12:2

b. Heaven is the __________________________________ of God.

                           i. _____________________________ Revelation 21:3

                           ii. _____________________________ Revelation 22:4

2. What is Heaven like?

Revelation 4:1 “After this, I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, ‘Come up here and I will show you what must take place after this’ “.

1 Corinthians 2:9,10 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him- but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit”.

a. Heaven is ________________________________________________.

Revelation 21:5 “He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’ Then he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

b. Heaven is __________________________________.

1 Peter 1:4 “…an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you”.

c. Heaven is a _________________________________.

Revelation 21:10 “And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of the heaven from God”.

*vs 15 size of the city

  vs 18 city wall

  vs 19-20 foundation

vs 21 city gates and streets

vs 23 no need of lighting

3. Heaven is closer than we think

a. When we pass away a believer _________________________.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 “Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him”.

“to fall asleep” means to _________________

How should we live knowing these truths?

                   i. We are __________________________ 2 Corinthians 5:1

ii. We should have a ________________ for our eternal home 2 Cor 5:2-4

We also encourage the kids to learn the series Bible verse (if they memorize it they get a prize!).

“I spend time thinking about your rules. I consider how you want me to live. I take delight in your orders. I won’t fail to obey your word.” (Psalm 119:15-16 NlrV)
