Sunday, December 12 || Alderbrook Church

Hello everyone,

Is this the Sunday that we are supposed to start singing the “twelve days of Christmas?” I was always fascinated by that Christmas Carol, especially when the person known as the “true love” would spend over $170,298 for the twelve gifts of Christmas!!

Speaking of gifts, we want to remind you that we are collecting non-perishable food items for the Abbotsford Food Bank each Sunday.

We are also supporting Casa De Luz in Mexico. You can purchase a CDL gift box this Christmas season, (www.casadeluzmexico.com) and the proceeds go towards the feeding and education programs in Primo Tapia.

This week we continue our Advent series… yes, just over twelve days away. Our Advent Series is titled, “The Weary World Rejoices” as we look at “When You’ve Lost Direction…Look for Joy.”

If you are away or unable to attend church, why not login through Zoom and attend church by clicking the link below:

Also, why not mark your calendars to attend the ACC Christmas Eve Service on Friday, December 24th 5-6pm; an incredible night recapturing the true meaning of Christmas!

See you this Sunday,

Sermon Series

December 12th~ A Weary World Rejoices, When You’ve Lost Direction, Look For Joy by Glenn Embree

Follow along during the sermon with the notes below!

Isaiah 7:14 (NLT) “All right then, the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God with us’).”

1. I can find joy when I remember ___________________________________.

Matthew 1:20-22 (NLT) “(Angel speaking to Joseph) As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, ‘Joseph, son of David’, the angel said, ‘do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.’ All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet…”

Micah 5:2 (NLT) “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, are only a small village among all the people of Judah. Yet a ruler of Israel will come from you, one whose origins are from the distant past.”

Psalm 37:5-6 (NLT) “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.”

2. I can find joy when I remember ____________________________________.

Luke 1:34-35 (NLT) “Mary asked the angel, ‘But how can this happen? I am a virgin.’ The angel replied, ‘The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.'”

1 Corinthians 1:23-25 (NLT) “So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense. But to those called by God to salvation, both Jew and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and the weakness is stronger than the greatest human strength.”

3. I can find joy when I remember _________________________________.

Luke 2:10-11 (Angels speaking to shepherds) “But the angel said to them,’ Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.'”

John 14:1 (NIV) “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me.”

John 14:6 (NLT) “Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
