Sunday, February 27 || Alderbrook Church

Hello everyone,

Did you enjoy the BC Day holiday? I’m suggesting that we have one holiday a month and celebrate all the Canadian provinces and territories (one at a time!!).

This Sunday, Gregg will be leading the music, plus we will have all of our youth and children’s programs happening at Alderbrook Church.

We are also continuing our new sermon series titled, WHO ARE YOU? A lot of people really struggle with who they are and who they were made to be. In fact, many are confused about who God created them to be and what he wants them to do. Over the next few weeks we will be looking at insights from God’s Word about our inner being-our soul…and find out who we really are!!

Sermon Series

February 27th ~ Who Are You, The Troubled Soul by Glenn Embree

Psalm 42:5 (NIV) “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed in me?”

Three (3) reasons why our soul might be ‘troubled’…..

1. I might be ________________onto trouble __________________________.

Lamentations 3:19-20 (NIV) “I remember my affliction and my wandering, and the bitterness and the gall. I remember them, and my soul is downcast within me.”

2. I might be ___________________ trouble _______________________________.

Job 4:5 (NIV) (Eliphaz speaking to Job) “But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you and you are dismayed.”

3. I might be ______________________ trouble _____________________________.

Mark 14:33-34 (NIV) “He took Peter, James and John along with him, and he began to be deeply distressed and troubled. ‘My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death’, he said to them…”

How do we deal with our ‘troubled soul’/ anxiety?

1. I need to remember __________________________ in the ____________________.

Lamentations 3:21-23 (NIV) “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion never fails. They are new every morning: great is your faithfulness.”

2. I can _________________________ to God __________________________________.

Psalm 142:5-7 (NIV) “I cry to you, O Lord: I say, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.’ Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. Set my feet from prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.”

3. I can _________________________ for ______________________________________.

2 Chronicles 32:7 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged because the king of Assyria and the vast army with him, for there is a greater power with us than with him.”

2 Chronicles 32:8 “With him is only the arm of the flesh, but with us is the Lord our God to help us and to fight our battles. And the people gained confidence from Hezekiah the king of Judah said.”

2 Chronicles 32:21, 22 “And the Lord sent an angel, who annihilated all the fighting men and leaders and officials….so the Lord saved Hezekiah and the people of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib king of Assyria…he took care of them on every side.”
