Sunday, February 20 || Alderbrook Church

Hello everyone,

It’s going to be a great Sunday at Alderbrook Church.

We have a guest worship leader, Misha Manuel, who is Vijay Manuel’s son (MEI Head Of Schoolc) coming to lead the music. Plus it’s Mission’s Sunday and we will be having Brett Smith give us an update of what’s been happening with the ministry/outreach of the Cyrus Centre.

We are also starting a brand new sermon series titled, WHO ARE YOU? A lot of people really struggle with who they are and who they were made to be. In fact, many are confused about who God created them to be and what he wants them to do. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking at insights from God’s Word about our inner being–our soul…and find out who we really are!

Feb 20 ~ The Restless Soul

Feb 27 ~ The Troubled Soul

Sermon Series

February 20th ~ Who Are You, The Restless Soul by Glenn Embree

Genesis 2:7 (KJV) “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Ecclesiastes 2:22-23 (TNIV) “What do people get for all their toil and anxious striving with which they labor under the sun? All their days their work is pain and grief; even at night their minds do not rest…”

Who are we? How do we find our ‘rest’ / balanced living/ identity?

1. We find our identity in ____________________________________________.

Psalm 62:1 (NIV) “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.”

St. Augustine, Confessions of St. Augustine…..

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our soul is restless until it finds rest in you.”

Matthew 11:28-29 (TNIV) “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”

2. We find our identity by ____________________________________________.

Psalm 46:10 (TNIV) “Be still, and know that I am God…..”

Psalm 131:2 (NIV) “But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.”

3. We find our identity by ____________________________________________.

Psalm 37:7 (TNIV) “Be still before God and wait patiently for him…”

Psalm 130:5-6 (NIV) “I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than the watchmen wait for the morning…”

Questions to ask God as you ‘wait…..

    a. What do you want to ___________________________

    b. What do you want to ___________________________

    c. What do you want to ___________________________

4. We find our identity through __________________________________.

Psalm 116:7-9 (NIV) “Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the Lord has been good to you. For you, O Lord, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before the Lord in the land of the living.”
